Abstract
The genetic algorithms are powerful for optimization, and have been successfully applied to controller design. However, most existing works are based on simulations and little works are available in the literature on on-line control applications. In this paper, a special feature in selecting the population of the genes is proposed, such that the genetic based algorithms can be modified for on-line applications. The modified algorithms are applied successfully to control on-line the temperature of an electric oven. Better performance results than the PID and Dynamic Matrix Control are obtained, illustrating the modified genetic algorithms are suitable for on-line applications.
