The International Federation of Automatic Control, founded in September 1957, is a multinational federation of National Member Organizations (NMOs), each one representing the engineering and scientific societies concerned with automatic control in its own country.

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is Norway's primary institution for educating the nation's future engineers and scientists. The university also has strong programmes in the social sciences, teacher education, the arts and humanities, medicine, architecture and fine art. It is the second largest university in Norway with approximately 20 000 students.

NFA - Norwegian Society of Automatic Control - was established in 1958 and is NMO (National Member Organization) for Norway in IFAC - International Federation of Automatic Control. NFA is Norway's most important, largest and oldest society within automatic control and is ideal and politically independent. NFA works with networking, development of competence and increased competitiveness for Norwegian industry. We are also concerned to ensure recruitment to higher education in technology and science.

The Gemini collaboration represents a model for strategic research coordination between parallel research groups at SINTEF, NTNU and the University of Oslo. The aim is to develop large-scale technical centres that produce higher quality results collectively than the individual groups would achieve independently. The Gemini Collaboration will enable collaborating groups to grasp new opportunities and bring them to fruition in the form of better value generation and profitability. The Gemini Center PROST -- Advanced Process Control, at NTNU and SINTEF, is a collaboration between the process control communities at NTNU, Department of Chemical Engineering and Department of Engineering Cybernetics, and SINTEF ICT, Department of Applied Cybernetics
