Active Structural Acoustic Control of a Machine Enclosure
Abstract
Vibrating machinery such as pumps, generators and compressorsnormally use passive insulation materials to reduce soundradiation. This paper provides a practical examination of possiblesolutions to active control of machine enclosures that reduces theradiated sound intensity from the enclosure to the environment. The results show that a combination of simple sky-hook typefeedback controllers for active mounts, and relativelystraightforward feedforward frequency selective filter (FSF) basedcontrollers for modal control, offer a practical solution. Thealgorithmic background to the new control techniques areexplained.
