Abstract
This paper demonstrates a practical way for system identificationusing subspace and cubic spline methods to minimize the task ofobtaining models using experimental frequency responses for alarge number of sensor-actuator locations. These models arebasically required in varied combinations for optimalactuator-sensor placement. Measuring at all the required positionsis impractical and analytical modelling methods are helpless fornonideal boundary conditions. This paper also presentsexperimental results of active noise control, using interpolatedmodels for an acoustic cavity. Acoustic enclosures are resonant systems which required anaccurate system model to design high performance controllers. Acontroller using minimax LQG control method based on interpolatedmodels provides promising results for the use of interpolatedmodels in control design.
