In this paper the existence and stability of limit cycles in a relay based estimation experiment are discussed. The relay test is used to estimate the frequency at which a given transfer function achieves a desired magnitude. The existence and stability of limit cycles in such experiment are derived via Poincare map analysis. Numerical examples point out the properties and limitations of the estimator.
