A modification of the Smith predictor schemes is introduced. This modification consists in a periodical resetting of the initial condition of the predictor. It allows to extend the use of these control laws to unstable linear systems with delay. The continuous and discrete implementation are considered. The stablility of the scheme is proved and sufficient conditions for robustness with respect to parameter and delay uncertainty are obtained in the discrete case. An illustrative example is discussed.
