This paper presents the nonlinear discrete-time versions of the controllability and obserbability function, its properties and algorithms to find them. Furthermore, since the resulting energy functions are continuous functions of the initial state, nonlinear balancing techniques can be directly used. Linear and nonlinear examples are provided to illustrate these algorithms.
