A new decomposition method is presented to handle optimal control design for two-degree of freedom time delay control systems. In this approach exact relationships between the actuator, process and design parameters furthermore the Nyquist stability margin are developed for a first order time delay process. The ultimate robustness limit of any control can be explicitly calculated using this approach.
Keywords: two-degree of freedom controller, robustness measure, power surplus
