MPC-part
What do you need to know about MPC?
The most important for this course is that you have a practical understanding
of how to use MPC for multivariable control, for example, using the
"Profit" software from Honeywell.
It will be expected that you have a basic knowledge of the theory behind MPC.
A good theoretical introduction to MPC is given in:
  - Rawlings, J. B. (2000). Tutorial Overview Of Model Predictive Control.
IEEE Control Systems Magazine, 20(3), 38-52.
or
  - MPC_Hovd_Pages-from-kurskompendium.pdf (section 6)
(Note that section 7 on performance monitoring is NOT required for 2008.)
Both can be downloaded from here:
http://www.nt.ntnu.no/users/skoge/vgprosessregulering/part3_multivariable/

Use of Unisim

To run Unisim and get more information about the program you need to go to:

(password required)

-----
08 Oct. 2008
- Morten Bakke has prepared a nice exercise that uses UniSim (Hysys).
  See here: http://www.nt.ntnu.no/users/skoge/vgprosessregulering/exercises
The assignment is in the pdf-file, and you need to copy over the usc-file for the debutanizer.
There will be a help session Friday 10-12.
Deadline for exercise 4: Monday 13 Oct.

- The next lecture is Tuesday 14. Oct. 0915-1145 by Bjørn Einar Bjartnes from Honeywell.

------
08 Sep. 2008
- The lectures from today (Monday) are now on the home page (uk3...)
- I have also put out a chapter on this from the thesis of Elvira Aske
- The exercise is also out now (Exercise 2)

-------
22 Aug. 2008
The lectures from today (Friday) can be found here:
http://www.nt.ntnu.no/users/skoge/vgprosessregulering/part1_plantwide_control/
see uke1_plantwide.ppt + uke2_plantwide2.ppt (only 10 first)

NOTE: I will change uke2_plantwide2.ppt so there is no need to print more than the 10 first slides now!

--------
21 Aug. 2008:
You can start with Exercise 1 NOW.
Questions: Magnus Glosli Jacobsen <magnusgl@nt.ntnu.no>
The deadline fo exercise 1 is Monday 01 Sept (to Magnus).

---
20 Aug 2008:
At present, the lecture plan is as follows (Room K4-233)

Friday 22 Aug 0915-1130
Tuesday 02 Sep 1015-1230
Monday 08 Sep 1415-1630
Friday 19 Sep 0915-1130
Monday 22 Sep 1415-1630
Monday 29 Sep 1415-1630
Monday 06 Oct 1415-1630
Monday 13 Oct 1415-1630

(it is possible that we will use Fridays instead of Mondays)

I suggest you print out the ppt-files before the lectures (use several
on each page + doible sided to save paper!).
It is important for learning that you are active durng the lectures
(taking notes, thinking, asking questions!)

The Ph.D. course and the 5th year Master specilization ("emnemodul") have
an initial common part, but the Ph.D. course has additional topics and
a larger emphasis on theory.
