Abstract
A design of a novel model predictive controller is presented. Theproposed Sliding Mode Predictive Control (SMPC) algorithm combinesthe design technique of Sliding-Mode Control (SMC) with Modelbased Predictive Control (MPC). The SMPC showed a considerablerobustness improvement with respect to MPC in the presence of timedelay, and showed an enhanced ability to handle set point changesin a nonlinear process. Its robustness was evaluated using arobustness plot, its performance was judged using a single inputsingle output nonlinear mixing tank process with variable timedelay. Copyright 2005 IFAC.
