In this paper, a differential geometric approach to solve the problem of fault detection and isolation in nonlinear systems is presented. New conditions giving a solution for fault isolation problem are proposed. These conditions are less restrictive than previous work and are based on the analysis of the solution of the fundamental problem of residual generation given by De Persis and Isidori.
