The paper presents a new optimal linear quadratic-pole placement (LQPP) technique that lets a designer simultaneously assign some dominant poles to exact desired locations (partial pole placement) and adjust the remaining non-dominant poles to optimize an LQ performance index (parametric optimization). As a result, a designer can fashion the control system to benefit from the properties of PP and LQR designs.
