The paper is concerned with a method of identification-based fault diagnosis for nonlinear continuous-time dynamic systems. A quick identification method is introduced in order to monitor online physical parameters specifying fault modes in the system. A fault diagnosis system which can accommodate for complex fault modes due to multi-simultaneous changes in system parameters is proposed based on the quick identification method. The effectiveness of the method has been confirmed through simulation studies on a ship propulsion system constructed as a standard model for benchmark test of fault diagnosis.
