An observer structure is presented which can be used to reconstruct the state and or parameters of a quantum system using recorded data together with a model Hamiltonian which is assumed to have the same structure as the true Hamiltonian (except for the unknown parameters). The parameters are estimated using a gradient algorithm. A numerical simulation of a quantum spin system shows convergence in some, but not all, cases.
