The Patient Physiological Image (PPI) is a novel concept which manages the knowledge of Virtual Center for Renal Support (VCRS), currently being developed by the Biomedical Engineering Group of the University of Seville (GIB). PPI is a virtual replica of a patient, built by means of a mathematical model. From a technical point of view, PPI is a component-oriented software module based on cutting-edge of Modeling and Simulation Technology. In this paper we first state the features that the PPI component must fulfill to support the VCRS functionality. From those, the VCRS-PPI software architecture is described.
