Abstract
In this research, the effect of polymer addition on slow release process of SCU (Sulfur Coated Urea) has been investigated. The polymers which used are waxes, paraffins, DCPD(dicyclopentadiene) and PEG(polyethylenglycol). Coated sulfur was porous material and has low mechanical resistance, these polymers used in order to decrease porosity and increase the plasticity properties. The granules of urea were coated using mixtures of sulfur and polymers with several percentages. The Coat of granules porosity was evaluated by gravimetric method. The increasing weight percent of wax, paraffin and DCPD in mixture caused to decrease the porosity, and increasing weight percent of PEG because of hydrophilic properties caused to increase the porosity of coating, these results were achieved with SEM. 7-day release tests showed that the mixture of sulfur/paraffin/DCPD had the best rate of slow release.

Presented Tuesday 18, 13:30 to 15:00, in session Controlled Release of the Active Ingredient: Mechanisms, Devices & Analysis (T3-2P).
