John Daniels, Engineering Education and Centers, National Science Foundation, Directorate for Engineering, 4201 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22230
The US National Science Foundation has been integrally involved in the larger national discussion on engineering education, the history of which is connected to the Engineering Education Coalitions of the 1990s and reports from the National Academies (e.g., Gathering Storm, Educating the Engineer of 2020). Likewise, the NSF provides leadership as to what sort of programs and investments ought to be pursued in the context of the American Competitiveness Initiative, the America Competes Act and general federal policy. This presentation will provide an update on NSF's perspective on a variety of initiatives (including department level curriculum reform) as well as general funding opportunities.
