WELCOME MESSAGE

The 22nd International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC) is a joint annual conference technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Control System Society. The 2018 edition is organized under the patronage of the Romanian Ministry of Research and Innovation and has three important companies as sponsors: ASTI Automation, ELECTRO-TOTAL and Continental Automotive Romania. I would like to point out that this edition of the conference takes place in a festive year as we celebrate 100 years from the Unification Day, that is when Transilvania, Basarabia, and Bucovina have been unified with the Romanian Kingdom.

The purpose of ICSTCC 2018 is to provide a forum in the field of systems, control and computing both for practitioners and theorists to report their latest research results, to exchange their ideas and experience and to promote collaborative research activities. The participants, from Romania and from abroad, have gathered together to discuss the development of systems, control theory, computing and their applications in engineering problems. The 22nd edition is hosted by the International Center for Conferences - Casino SINAIA, being organized by four universities from Galati, Timisoara, Craiova and Iasi.

At this edition, 6 personalities from the academic and scientific world have been invited to deliver the plenary speeches. They are: Prof. Alberto BEMPORAD (IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, Italy); Prof. Gildas BESANÇON (Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France); Prof. Emilia FRIDMAN (Tel Aviv University, Israel); Prof. Ion NECOARA (University Politehnica Bucharest, Romania); Prof. Dorothée NORMAND-CYROT (Research Director, in the "Laboratoire des Signaux et Systemes" in Gif-sur-Yvette, France); Prof. Sigurd SKOGESTAD (Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway).

This year, we have received 198 papers. After a very rigorous review process made by the Conference Program Committee, 135 papers have been accepted and included in the Conference Proceedings. These papers are organized in 24 parallel sessions, including 6 invited sessions, with 4 parallel tracks for the course of the three days of the conference. There are registered 145 participants from 27 countries.

The topics of the Proceedings includes three categories of research fields, which in turn include sub-domains such as: Automation and Robotics (Linear and Nonlinear Control System Design, Robust and Adaptive Control, System Identification and Modeling of Processes, Embedded Systems, Robotics and Intelligent Control, Applications and Case Studies in Automation and Robotics); Computer Science and Engineering (Distributed Systems and Software Engineering, Databases, Web services, Internet Security, Software Tools and Methods, Artificial Intelligence); Electronics and Instrumentation (Signal Processing and Communication Systems, Linear and Nonlinear Circuits and Systems).

The Conference Proceedings being a comprehensive collection of the latest research papers serve as an excellent reference for university professors and graduate students in the field of automation, control and computing as well as for experts working in research institutions and engineers in industry. We greatly appreciate the efforts of all contributors of the papers and members of the international program committee, technical program committee, organizing committee, plenary speakers, invited session chairs and all authors for their outstanding contributions.

I hope you will have a pleasant stay in Sinaia, Romania and ICSTCC 2018 will be a successful conference!
