Ph.D student Harald Nordgaard Hansen

Status

I started my Ph.D. study in 1992 and will finish in 1997. My work is financed by the Royal Norwegian Research Council, and my advisor is Prof. Kristian M. Lien.

Research area

This year has been spent trying to get an overview of synthesis gas technology. I have tried some schemes for implementing a design model of a steam reformer and an autothermal reformer.

Activities

In January, I finally had the exam of my last course, «Gas cleaning with chemical solvents.» The rest of the year has been spent getting to know the ins and outs of synthesis gas technology and implementing some models of my understanding of this technology. In addition, I assisted in the teaching of the course «Advanced Process Synthesis» in the spring.

We also proposed a paper for Escape-6, but as we have not yet gained sufficient trust in our results, this paper has been withdrawn, and will be published at a later stage.

Plans for 1996

In the spring I will be staying with the group of Prof. Costas Pantelides at Imperial College, where I will continue work on my thesis research and also start writing on the theoretical part of the thesis. In the fall, I will be back in Trondheim, hopefully concentrating on writing, and also I plan to co-advise a diploma thesis on extending the model.
